Setting
Minneapolis and the surrounding Twin Cities area, 2007. Bright and sunny, warm and welcoming. It is an area seeing much growth, both in population and the economy. Minnesota nice, is the slogan. And why not? In business, in recreation, in opportunity, everything seems to be booming.
You know the darker side, however. The murders, the disappearances. But, that is how it has always been. Minneapolis has always been in the top 3 in the nation for murders per capita. People just don't seem to notice anymore. No matter who the police chief or mayor is, no matter how many promises are made, no one seems to be able to make a difference.
Maybe you can change that though. You have seen the true danger, the real cause of it all. Things that no one believes in. Horrors that you dare not speak of. Who would believe you? Sometimes you don't believe the truth yourself.
Vampires are real, you have seen them. You have fought and killed them. Stood over them as they turned to dust, leaving only the stake in your hand. Howled in furry and grief as you looked down upon the dead body of a close friend or family member with her throat torn out. And then, after the funeral, waited by the grave so you could put her to rest a second time, as she dug her way through the earth.
Yes, vampires do exist. And do they ever multiply in number. Luckily they are careless beasts for the most part. They maybe able to pass as humans, but they are always looking for the next kill. Supremely confident in their supernatural strength, the predators often make mistakes, mistakes that you have made good use of. There are those few though. Those few vampires who seem to be able to control their instincts. To plan and organize. To sometimes even form groups of the living dead. You have learned that those are the truly dangerous among the vampires.
If only it was the vampires though. Then maybe you would have hope. You have caught glimpses of other... things, though. Heard talk of other powers. Demons is what you hear them called. Some look just like monsters, others you have heard can pass for human. But they are not human. The sights you have seen, the stories you have heard. The horrors that these creatures perpetrate upon the human race are things beyond your nightmares...
And what is wrong with the humans that worship these creatures of nightmare? Yes, the demon cultists. The rites and deeds they preform, so that they may partake of some dark treat from their masters. How many humans have you been forced to kill, as they preform their master's bidding.
Then, of course, magic should not be left out of this litany of dispair. Yes, burning smelly herbs, throwing around foul powders, holding aloft ancient artifacts, chanting dead languages from musty old books, magic. Humans who decide that they can be vessels of power themselves. And who are then, of course, twisted by the dark powers they attempt to control. Oh you have heard of some that tread lightly and attempt to use their forbidden powers to combat the ever expanding darkness, but are they really anything more then those who have not yet fallen? Only time will tell, you suppose. But the telling seems far to often to be another nightmare.
All of this you strive against. But, what will stop you from falling into dispair, when all about you is darkness? And yet you fight. You and a few others who have seen the truth. Are you few the last hope for light in the world?... You cetainly hope things have not slipped so far. In your corner of the world though, the fight goes on. And you will continue to beat back the darkness, to bring hope to the helpless, or die trying...
